I Can't Approve of Teaching Charismatic Methods of Worship in a Baptist Church
It should really be upsetting how I ended up hearing of a Baptist pastor who wants to introduce charismatic ways of worship into a Baptist church. The first instance that was mentioned (at least to my ears) was when the pastor made up lousy excuses such as chapel hours and worship services are a time to unwind. It was his excuse when he was caught doing the speaking in tongues and charismatic methods of worship in a youth fellowship.
I have seen various charismatic methods of worship and they all end up pretty messy for a reason - their spirit is not the Holy Spirit. I remembered watching the Trinity Broadcasting Network only to drop it later because of all the chaos in the charismatic movement. Here's just one good example of what I don't want to take place in the local Baptist church (or any non-Baptist Christian denomination) for that matter.
I don't believe for a second that this "speaking in tongues" or gibberish is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. That kind of talk is just stupid. When the Holy Spirit anointed the apostles with speaking of tongues - they spoke different languages and understood different languages simultaneously. Gibberish is an entirely different issue.
Also, the Holy Spirit is an Author of order and not confusion. The very idea that all the floor rolling, so-called holy laughter and gibberish is an anointing of the Holy Spirit is woefully ignorant. How can such chaos be an anointing of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer?
