Dear Entertainment Driven Church, I Don't See Entertainers Anywhere in the Scriptures!

Ephesians 4:11-16 says, "11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love."

Who did God give to edify the Body of Christ for the New Testament church? First apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, pastors and preachers but no entertainers. In the Old Testament we had the priests (from the Tribe of Levi and Aaron's line) and the prophets but absolutely no entertainers involved. While I read it in John F. MacArthur's "Worship: The Ultimate Priority" that Charles H. Spurgeon may have had the mistake of thinking that having an organ in his church was unscriptural (and I don't entirely agree with him in some areas except on the more important issues) but I can't deny that he's right in many areas. Like when do the entertainers come in? There's none with entertainers. None of them! I guess when Spurgeon said that quote, there were already entertainment driven churches during his time. Unfortunately, the problem has just gotten worse and I keep seeing it to the point I feel like slamming my head on the desk.

What's scarier is that Spurgeon ended up prophesying that there will be churches that have clowns entertaining goats instead of pastors who are feeding sheep and it's happening. Again, I guess Spurgeon was simply paraphrasing Jeremiah 5:31 and not making an actual prophecy. Yesterday it was the Old Testament priests and in the New Testament you have pastors who repeat the same mistake. If you claim to be a pastor but all you do is drive an entertainment drive church. You're just the pastor of Jeremiah 2:8, 10:21, 12:10, 22:22, 23:1-2 and not the Jeremiah 3:15 pastors. God said in Jeremiah 3:15, "And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." The pastors are called to feed people with understanding, drive out wolves and protect the sheep not to invite wolves and entertain the goats not to be the pastors that have erred from their jobs. If a pastor is having billions, living in a mansion and he's not a big time entrepreneur like William Colgate or Bill Gates then something's wrong. If a pastor should ever receive huge donations those were not for him to reap for his benefit. If they start quoting Malachi 3:9-10 for their wicked propaganda they NEED to check it again because the tithes and offerings are meant to supply the work of the LORD not to make the pastor rich!

When the pastor is rapping on stage then he's a rapper and he's not a pastor that God has given to give us knowledge and understanding. When a pastor is calling for a concert instead of a worship service then he's an entertainer not a pastor. While song numbers and the choir singing is part of worship but the moment they just keep singing and the pastor has no real useful message then it's a concert. It may go ahead and keep driving people near. They can go ahead and say that they're right with God because they're popular. But let me give this warning about those who think they're right because the world loves them. You're not right because the world loves you. Besides, John 15:18-19 says that the Christians don't belong to this world. James 4:4 warns that to be a friend of the world is to be an enemy of God. Ever since Christians got reconciled with God it means be ready to be the enemy of the world. Entertainment driven churches can go ahead and say I'm jealous of their worldly success but I'm really criticizing them because I love the people involved in them more than enough to tell them the truth!
