I Still Believe in Biblical Standards For Sex and Marriage

Those who oppose traditional marriage says, "That's Old Testament!" to my face. I remembered how advocates of the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender (LGBT) communities say that I have no right to tell them that they're wrong if I keep eating bacon and shrimp. Others have their tendency to say "Love is all that matters." never mind that 1 Corinthians 13:8 says that love doesn't rejoice in wrong but rejoices in the right.

Why do I still support traditional marriage? It's because God said it and He has good reasons to give those rules. I'm not going to stop there but I'm going to talk about several stuff in the Old Testament that's still relevant to the New Testament. If the Old Testament were obsolete so why do some people still follow the Ten Commandments? If the Old Testament were obsolete then stuff like incestuous relationships should be tolerated. Now I'd talk about the biblical standard of marriage vs. the sexual immorality this world allows.

God said in Genesis 2:24 that a man shall leave his parents and cleave unto his wife to become one flesh. Jesus affirmed it in Matthew 19:5 and Mark 10:7. The apostle Paul further verified it in Ephesians 5:31. Traditional Christian marriage calls for a man to leave his parents when he gets married. This is also part of the practical arrangement because mothers-in-law can be so meddlesome. Staying under one roof with an extended family can mean a lot of trouble. Having a nuclear family also forces both the husband and the wife to make wise decisions. This was also the original plan that every marriage was to be one man and one wife. Divorce was never part of God's plan either as it has tragic consequences towards the children whether they be biological or adopted.

God also gave laws against incest to protect people from the genetic consequences of incest. Leviticus 18 contains laws against incest and sexual relations outside marriage. To those who insist that what's in the Old Testament is already "obsolete" aren't taking things in context. Just because Christians today may eat shellfish, crustaceans and pork doesn't mean that the moral law has been obsolete. In fact, Leviticus 18 is the anti-incest chapter. Do you know that any act of inbreeding can lead to genetic defects? After reading all the inbreeding that happened in the ancient world made me think it's no wonder why many royal families fall apart. One good example would be the Herods where inbreeding was common with Herodias marrying her half-uncle Philip and they even had a daughter named Salome or how Herodias' parents were first cousins.

The problem of polygamy is that it goes against God's original design. Just thinking about how Jacob's life with four wives must have been a headache. The problem was that David and Solomon both failed to adhere to Deuteronomy 17:17 that a king should not multiply wives. The result that David had so many wives soon led him to stealing another man's wife namely Bathsheba. This created a dysfunctional household especially he had antagonistic sons namely Amnon, Absalom and Adonijah. The best example of a miserable polygamist was Solomon. He had a total of 1,000 women yet the Song of Solomon was only penned for an unnamed Shulammite woman. Solomon was miserable as all his other women led him astray.

To say homosexual relationships harm no one is stupid. It may not affect others personally but the reason why I oppose it is because it harms those who practice it. It's also a perversion of this fact that homosexuals "marry" the person of the same gender then they seek to adopt children. It's a reverse of the traditional marriage of marrying and multiplying. The only couple that should be allowed to adopt in case they can't have children are sexually pure couple. Homosexuals end up creating confusion when they adopt children. Who's the mother and who's the father? This might be given the stupidity that soon enough people have two legal fathers and two legal mothers as a result. This would be different than a sexually pure heterosexual couple who adopts a child.

Fornication and adultery also gives to society a lot of unwanted children and not to mention accidental incest. Many people think nothing's wrong with sleeping around with various men and women only to create a situation where half-siblings may have no knowledge of their blood relations. This in turn could end up resulting in a lot of unintended inbreeding leading towards more and more freak children. Also live-in relationships also harm society than fix it. It could start with two people who are eligible for marriage but choose not to get married so they could easily split if the relationship does not work. People tend to live in because divorce takes a lot of paperwork and it's easier to live in adultery living in with one's paramour. Encouraging live-in relationships would encourage to both fornication and adultery. It may also fuel the abortion market because they also encourage unwanted pregnancy. To make a business out of immoral sex also explains why society is indeed screwed up.

I don't really care about what the world thinks. What is right is always right and what is wrong is always wrong. Even if the world says there is no God there is still a God. Truth remains as truth even if scoffers laugh at it. They can go ahead and laugh at biblical truth but the consequences will always remain the same.
